BREAKING NEWS: Ken Holland confirms center player is out for the rest of the season.

On the morning after his Detroit Red Wings ended their incredible 25 year post-season qualification run, general manager Ken Holland confirmed that 27 year-old Luke Glendening will miss the team’s final six games with an ankle injury.

Glendening, who begins a brand new four year contract next season, was injured in Monday’s 4-3 OT win against the Carolina Hurricanes. He was ruled out of last night’s contest as well, and, given the extent of the injury, the team has decided to shut him down for the remainder of the season.

The native of Grand Rapids, MI showed some promise last season by putting up eight goals and 21 points in 81 games, but has failed to build on his moderate success this season. It was enough for Holland to offer him a $7.2 million contract that takes him through the 2020-21 season. A contract that could come back to haunt the longtime Wings GM. This season Glendening put up a pedestrian three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 74 games with a -10 plus/minus rating. 

Rightly or wrongly, more will be expected of Glendening when he returns in full health next season.
