He's walking away from $4.8 million!?!?
This just in, forward David Kampf has been suspended by the Toronto Maple Leafs after he reportedly walked out on the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
Kampf is in year three of a four year deal that pays him $2.4 million per season. After the Leafs demoted him to the AHL though, the team was just on the hook for $1.2 million against the salary cap. Now, with Kampf suspended for no-showing, that $1.2 million cap hit is gone.
The next move is either to terminate Kampf's contract or... have him report back to the team. If Kampf reports for duty and suits up for the Marlies then he'll earn his full $2.4 million annual salary. If he can't bring himself to do it though, he'll be in violation of his contract and the Leafs will be within their rights to terminate the deal.
Stay tuned.
