Team could cut ties with their young 30 goals scorer
It's always a great pleasure to read Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts. Trade deadline is coming fast and lots of noise are surrounding the Montreal Canadiens. In fact, his first trade bait is regarding the Montreal Canadiens former 3rd overall draft pick Alex Galchenyuk. According to Friedman, the team doesn't seem to know what to do with their young 30 goals scorer.
"The shuffling between centre and wing show a player and an organization still struggling to find the right fit. Galchenyuk’s contract is up. He is two years away from unrestricted free agency and eligible for arbitration. Many of his peers are getting long-term deals in the $6-$7 million range. With 30 goals last season and 29 points in 37 games this year, he is going to get paid." wrote Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman.
Marc Bergevin certainly does have a lot of decisions ahead of him if (and only if) he sincerely believes he can win this year. Is Joe Sakic asking Alex Galchenyuk in exchange of Matt Duchene's services? The possibility also relies on the fact that Bergevin has been reported to have interest in the Colorado Avalanches star forward.
"Bergevin could wait until the end of the season to address this, but more than one NHL exec says the Canadiens “have a lot of moving pieces” right now" as reported by Friedman
