One of the National Hockey League's biggest stars is headed to injured reserve.
After an update on the status of Jonathan Toews yesterday revealed that he would continue to miss time due to an undisclosed injury, the Chicago Blackhawks have now moved to place their captain on IR retroactive to the 24th of December.
It's still entirely unclear what exactly is keeping Toews out of the line up, but it's believed that he will continue to sit for at least the near future. Toews was listed as doubtful for participation in both games that will be played over the weekend.
There is a silver lining here, the Blackhawks have activated defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk from injured reserve, so they will be getting some help back in the line up make to help make up for the loss of Toews.
