Breaking: NHL forward leaving his team after blocking a trade.

There is a very interesting new wrinkle in the drama surrounding the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Russian forward Vadim Shipachyov and it's not one that is likely to garner a lot of sympathy for the player.

Fans empathized with Shipachyov's frustration of not being used at the National Hockey League level by the Golden Knights after he moved his entire family across the world to play for their team, however it now sounds like the player himself played a major role in things falling apart.

A breaking news report from Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston has revealed that the Las Vegas Golden Knights had a trade deal in place for Shipachyov, however that deal was blocked by the player. This effectively left the Golden Knights no choice but to work on a way to terminate his contract with both the NHL and NHLPA, something that has now been made official.

While Johnston did not reveal who the Golden Knights had the deal in place with, there were rumors this summer that the Montreal Canadiens were always heavily pursuing Shipachyov. Given that team's needs at center and their slow start to the season it wouldn't be shocking to learn they were the target.
