While many have speculated this announcement would come it's now official.
The Edmonton Oilers have just introduced
Todd McLellan as their new head coach making him the third Hockey Canada big wig to have been hired by the Oilers in recent months,
McLellan will join general manager
Peter Chiarelli and chief executive officer
Bob Nicholson to form a trio of Canadian national team veterans.
It's a major turn around for the Oilers who have now dismissed one of the worst management groups in recent memory and have hired some very well respected men as they prepare to draft the most exciting prospect since Sidney Crosby.
Edmonton has not made the playoffs since 2006 while McLellan missed the post season for the first time in his 7 year tenure with the Sharks this season. The Oilers and their fans are hoping that McLellan can get this team playing at a respectable level within the next few seasons.
