Breaking: NHL GM publicly admits to trying to trade for Galchenyuk!

National Hockey League general managers are usually pretty quiet about potential trades, or trades that finally didn't take place. Well, New Jersey Devils GM Ray Shero isn't want of them as his interview with a Montreal French Radio, 91.9 Sports, went viral as he admits one surprising fact.

Shero admitted to trying to land Montreal Canadiens top forward Alex Galchenyuk, as both he and Habs GM Marc Bergevin had several conversations throughout the summer, and at the NHL Entry Draft.

"I talked about a lot of things with Bergevin during the Draft, but of course, none of it came to fruition," he said, translated from French on air.

"The name of Galchenyuk is one that was mentioned in the discussions with Bergevin," he added, once again, translated from French.

Bergevin made several moves during the offseason, and was said to be shopping Galchenyuk at that time. The 23-year-old stayed with the Habs, struggled a bunch in October, but has gotten back on track with the team.

In 27 games this season, Galchenyuk has recorded six goals and 12 points.

It remains to be seen if Shero will get in trouble for his comments, though he stayed neutral during the interview. In June 2016, Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning was fined $50,000 by the league for tampering, as charges stemmed from comments Benning made on the radio about Steven Stamkos, and former Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban.

Teams and their executives are not allowed to publicly discuss players under contract with other teams.
