NHL head coach fired for smoking cigarettes in between periods?

If you were in Montreal (or had the chance to be close to the city) the day, Michel Therrien was relieved from his duty you probably saw that his dismissal was on every network. Firing the Montreal Canadiens head coach might be a bigger event than if it was the prime minister was being impeached.

Of course the Montreal Canadiens’ GM told every cliche possible regarding his decision to fire Michel Therrien but the truth might be hidden somewhere else.

Enrico Ciccone, former NHL player (who also played for Michel Therrien) and Montreal Canadiens insider reported this morning that Michel Therrien might have been fired for smoking cigarettes in between periods. This was not the only reason obviously, but it appears it may have been an issue.

On 91.9 Sports Montreal, Ciccone said, “In between periods, he was hiding in the Bathroom to smoke cigarettes.”

Before Claude Julien came in, the organization had to move all the furniture out of the office and refresh the painting on the wall to hide the cigarette smell.

I remember it was a concern among players when I was playing for the team.
