The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has issued a big suspension to Columbus Blue Jackets' forward Jared Boll following his crushing hit of Philadelphia Flyers' forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.
While many felt the hit was worthy of suspension, there were also many fans who were surprised when the announcement came down that Boll would face a hearing for the hit. There's no argument that the hit warranted a two minute minor as a result of interference, but anything beyond that is less black and white and has caused heated debate.
Despite the fact that Boll was ejected from the game on the spot, the NHL's Player Safety has issued a four game suspension, for Boll who will now forfeit four games of salary as well.
