Breaking: NHL officials have just made one of the worst calls you'll ever see.
Keystone Press

I'm just going to come right out and say it, this was an absolute travesty of officiating, a disgrace if you will, and the National Hockey League officials on the ice and in the review booth back in Toronto ought to have the decency to be embarrassed at how wrong they got this.

On Sunday night the Tampa Bay Lightning were facing off against the New Jersey Devils at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay, Florida and it looked like the Lightning were going to put on quite the show for their fans in attendance early on in the game. The Lightning exploded for 3 early first period goals on the Devils with the Devils being entirely unable to provide a response, that is until the NHL's officials got involved. Roughly midway through the first period the Devils dumped the puck into the Lightning zone only to have Lightning goaltender Louis Domingue corral the puck behind his net and make a clearing attempt.

The clearing attempt from Domingue was a pretty bad one to be fair, putting the puck right on the stick of Devils' winger Brett Seney who then fired off a shot at the Lightning net. Domingue raced back to his net in an attempt to make the save and while he did so he was closely followed from behind by Devils veteran Brian Boyle who actually found himself inside the crease behind Domingue when the shot went off. Domingue attempted to make the sprawling save on the play and managed to do so in spite of the fact that he was clearly impeded from making a complete sprawl by the body of Boyle who was standing awkwardly behind him. The result was Domingue managing to make the first save but falling awkwardly in the process, something that rendered him unable to recover in time to make the second save.

The goal was ruled a good goal by referee Tim Peel, a controversial official to put it mildly, and that resulted in Domingue staring at Peel in absolute disbelief at what had just transpired. Fortunately for Domingue though it was early in the game and his team still had their challenge available, and after reviewing the video that is exactly what the Lightning decided to do. In an absolutely travesty of justice however the NHL's review team came back with a ruling of no goaltender interference on the play, resulting in shock and disbelief in Tampa and resulting in the disbelief of many other NHL fans as well.

Don't take my word for it though judge for yourself and be sure to let us know your feelings on the play, whether you agree or disagree, in the comments below.
