We have a crazy story to report.

The New York Times has published a police report that they have obtained from the Saratoga Springs Police Department through the Freedom of Information Act, and in that report Florida Panthers owner Vinny Viola is accused of physically assaulting a concessions worker.

According to the document Viola punched the worker in the face at a high-end racing auction back in August and is usually the case in these types of disputes, there are two sides to the story. Viola claims that the concessions worker had shoved his wife as she tried to enter a restricted area to grab water for a woman who had fainted, an allegation that the concessions worker has denied.

It's perhaps telling that once police got involved neither side decided to move forward with charges against one another and with officers not witnessing the incident themselves, the story ends there.

It appears that the motivation from the New York Times to investigate the NHL owner is a result of his nomination as President Elect Donald Trump's Secretary of the Army rather than interest in his NHL business.
