Breaking: NHL team gets caught scouting for a new coach, current coach likely to be fired.

A National Hockey League team has just been caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

While we have heard no concrete rumors regarding a potential firing of head coach Jeff Blashill in Detroit, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has just dropped a bombshell report.

According to Friedman despite the fact that the Red Wings are currently working with Blashill, a coach who had great success for them at the American Hockey League level, the team was actively looking at another NHL head coach.

From Friedman's report:

With back-to-back wins over Florida and Arizona, Detroit ended a six-game losing streak and remains in the thick of the playoff race. I mentioned during last Saturday’s show about the possibility of Dave Tippett going to Detroit if — and I stress if — the Red Wings wanted to make a change, but I believe in that possibility less now. Detroit did some due diligence on Tippett. That’s not to say it was imminent, but simply collecting information. They asked enough people that it got around.

The mere fact that general manager Ken Holland is doing due diligence on former NHL head coaches has to be considered a very bad sign for Blashill, and furthermore has to be viewed as an indication that Holland does not believe he is the man for the job.

While as Friedman stated the Red Wings' current winning ways have seemingly bought Blashill some time, one has to wonder what will happen if the Red Wings go on another bad run this season.
