It seems like one National Hockey League franchises is finally fed up with it's current arena situation.

According to a breaking news report from CBS New York, the New York Islanders have officially submitted a proposal to do what many fans think they should have done a long time ago, move back to Long Island.

The move comes amid rampant speculation that Islanders captain John Tavares would not be signing an extension with the team without a better arena situation secured for both the team's future as well as his own future.

The Islanders have released the following official statement:

“New York Arena Partners, LLC has submitted a comprehensive proposal to create a world-class sports and entertainment destination at Belmont Park, which we look forward to discussing with the Empire State Development Corporation.”

New York Arena Partners is a group that includes the owners of the New York Mets Major League Baseball franchise, a group that obviously has a great deal of political capital in the city of New York. While this is merely a bid, one of three rumored proposals for Belmont Park, with such a powerful group supporting them it seems the Islanders may finally be going back home.
