A National Hockey League veteran may have just made a decision that could mark the end of his career.

Despite rumors that veteran defenseman Mark Streit was likely to be traded after clearing the waiver process, a process that began when the Montreal Canadiens placed him on waivers Thursday, no trade has materialized.

As a result Streit has been asked to report to the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket, and according to a report from NHL insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports Steit has no intention of doing so.

According to Lavoie Streit will now be taking to the week to "evaluate his options" which has led to much speculation that this could be the end of his NHL career. If Streit, a Stanley Cup Champion and veteran of nearly 800 NHL games, decides that he would rather retire than play in the AHL, no one will hold it against him except perhaps the Canadiens organization.
