Breaking: Oilers officially announce the details of Connor McDavid's contract.

The Edmonton Oilers have finally announced the new contract for Connor McDavid.

We can now announce that the Oilers have officially signed Connor McDavid to a monster 8 year contract that will carry an average annual value of $12.5 million, instantly making him one of the highest paid players in the National Hockey League.

In fact McDavid will now carry a higher average annual value than any other player in the league, however it's possible that some players may have earned more in a single season due to signing bonuses. We will know more on that once the full details of McDavid's new deal, including signing bonuses, will have been leaked to the public.

While the both the Oilers and McDavid repeatedly dodged questions about McDavid potentially taking less money to help the team build a championship contender, that was definitely the impression we were left with after watching the Oilers press conference. 

It had previously been reported that the number was $13.5 million in average annual value, another piece of data that would appear to support that belief.
