Breaking: Oilers trying to make a trade, several teams showing serious interest.

The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly working hard to get a trade done.

Earlier today we reported on the fact that the Oilers had placed veteran defenseman Eric Gryba on waivers, but it sounds like the Oilers have been trying to trade him to avoid that outcome.

Oilers insider Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal is reporting that the Oilers have received "sincere interest" from a number of teams, however those appear to be teams that are already at their maximum number of roster contracts(50).

This could be a good sign for the Oilers however, as these teams would also be unable to acquire Gryba off of waivers without dumping one of their existing contracts, something that could make it less appealing to those organizations.

The teams with interest are likely looking to get the Oilers to take a contract back in the deal and it seems that detail may be what has prevented the trade from being completed, at least so far.

It sounds like the Oilers are still trying to get this done, so it will be even more interesting to see if he is claimed off before the Oilers can actually get something in return.
