Not only did the Anaheim Ducks fall short of their goal to reach the Stanley Cup Final, but the attempt may have cost them big time .

According to a breaking news report from the National Hockey League's official website has revealed that veteran forward Ryan Kesler has a much more significant injury than initially believed, and the surgery required could keep him out for a whopping 5 months of action.

Even though it's still very early in the offseason an injury of this magnitude will have a large impact on Kesler's 2017-2018 NHL campaign, although as one of the most reviled players in the league there are likely a number of fans who will welcome the news of his absence.

"It's going to take awhile," Kesler said as per NHL.com. "Gotta be patient with that. ... It [stinks], but it had to be done."

We wish Kesler a full and speedy recovery, and we will be bringing you an update when Kesler is re-evaluated in roughly three months.
