Franchise player.

What is a franchise player anyway? A point-producer? A 200-feet player? Someone you're willing to play in every situation, 5 on 5, penalty kill, power-play? Maybe he's the leader on your team, the presence in the locker room? A first overall pick? All of it?

That is the description of New-York Islanders' John Tavares. Since he signed his "bridge contract" in 2012, Tavares is a point-per-game producer for the New-York Islanders while being a 200-feet player and a tremendous captain.

With only another year remaining to his contract, rumors have Tavares playing anywhere but in Long-Island. Leafs fans surely hope he's getting a deal done in Toronto but Johnny T. plans on wearing the Orange and Blue for a while. Says he's "open to discussing an extension and that he's excited about where the organization is headed."
