One of the National Hockey League's very best rookies has been injured.

According to multiple reports the Columbus Blue Jackets have lost defenseman Zach Werenski after he was the victim of a big hit from Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin.

Werenski has been widely viewed as one of the top canidates for the Calder Trophy this season alongside names like Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine and Mitch Marner, and has also been a huge part of the surge in success experienced by the Blue Jackets.

The good news is the Blue Jackets have listed him as "day to day," so for the time being this doesn't sound like it will be a long-term injury.
