Breaking: Penguins lose Radim Zohorna on waivers.

Radim Zohorna claimed as many suspected.

The Pittsburgh Penguins may have miscalculated.

Earlier today we reported on a large number of cuts to the Penguins' training camp roster on Sunday, a number of cuts that included some surprising names. At the top of that list of names was forward Radim Zohorna, who has spent the last 2 seasons with the Penguins, and somewhat unsurprisingly it would now appear that his time with the Penguins has come to an end.

According to an official announcement from the Calgary Flames, the Flames have claimed Zohorna off waivers and will now add him to their roster moving forward. If the Flames wish to send Zohorna down to the American Hockey League they will have to send him through the waiver process once again, but they can also choose to simply keep him on the main roster to avoid doing so.

Zohorna was actually listed as one of the participants for the Penguins in their preseason game schedule for later today, but that will have to change as well given that he is now property of the Calgary Flames.

Zohorna had 2 goals and 4 assists for the Penguins last season for a total of 6 points over 17 regular season games. He finished the season with 4 penalty minutes and a plus minus rating of +12.

Just earlier today, Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was singing Zohorna's praises for his hard work in training camp.

"I think Z has played extremely well," said Sullivan. "That's one of the reasons why he continues to play here. It's not that Drew didn’t not play well. I thought Drew had a good camp as well. But when you’re getting down to the final roster spots, these decisions are very difficult."
