The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they’ve re-signed 23-year-old center Jean-Sebastien Dea to a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000.

Dea made his NHL debut for the Penguins last season and was a member of the “Black Aces” squad during the team’s past two Stanley Cup runs. The 5’11, 175 lb Laval, Quebec native has played the past three season with the team’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, putting up 18 goals and 34 points in 73 games during the 2016-17 season.

Look for Dea to finally make a case for himself to stick with the big club in 2017-18 if he has a good showing at training camp. Given that his new deal expires next offseason, it might be now or never for the young pivot.
