He is back in business.

It has been reported that former Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli has been hired by the St. Louis on Wednesday.

Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports that Chiarelli has become a consultant to the Blues for the upcoming season.

Chiarelli was the mix to get the vacant Minnesota Wild general manager position before former Pittsburgh Penguins assistant GM Bill Guerin was hired to replace Paul Fenton. He was also linked to the Vancouver Canucks and friend Jim Benning earlier this offseason.

Many found it difficult to see Chiarelli back as an NHL GM after his disastrous time with the Oilers.  Although Chiarelli still must have some value as a general manager, it has become abundantly clear that his ability to evaluate talent is almost non existent. From the decision to let players like Jordan Eberle go to the signing of players like aging veteranMilan Lucic and most notably to the decision to trade forward Taylor Hall for defenseman Adam Larson it is clear that Chiarelli is misguided in his judgments.

However, a return to the NHL, and with the defending Stanley Cup champions might be what he needs to get some credibility back.
