Breaking: Plane registered to former Blue Jays star Roy Halladay has crashed.

Potential tragedy strikes the baseball world.

There is some terrible news to report regarding former Major League Baseball superstar Roy Halladay.

A plane has crashed in the Gulf of Mexico leaving one person dead, and according to a report from 10 News in Tampa there it is currently unknown if the former Blue Jay was inside at the time of the crash.

From 10 News:

One person was killed Tuesday after a plane registered to eight-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.

It was not immediately known if Halladay was flying the plane.

Obviously there is now a great deal of concern regarding Halladay himself, but we aren't able to conform anything either positive or negative at this time. Stay tuned for updates on this story. 

Update: Sheriff has confirmed the tragic passing of Roy Halladay. We wish we could have brought you some happier news on this matter, rest in peace Doc.
