Breaking: Promising Red Wings prospect to make his NHL debut.

Highly touted Russian prospect Evgeny Svechnikov will make his long anticipated NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings as they take on the Ottawa Senators from Joe Louis Arena tonight

When forward Drew Miller was announced as out of the lineup with the flu, general manager Ken Holland was forced to all up Svechnikov from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins on an emergency recall. Schevnikov, who was drafted 19th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has had a productive first season in the pro ranks. In 68 games with the Griffins this season the talented forward has produced 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points.

The plan from the Red Wings was to have Svechnikov play the entire season and post-season with the Griffins, but with his emergency call-up, Wings fans will finally get a chance to see their prized prospect at the NHL level sooner rather than later.

Head coach Jeff Blashill is expected to deploy Svechnikov on a line with Dylan Larkin and Justin Abdelkader, so there’s a chance that he could find himself in offensive situations.  It’s been a dark season that Wings fans have had to endure, but a Svechnikov/Larkin combo has the potential to provide a silver lining.
