Breaking: Quenneville denies reports of him taking the job in Philadelphia!

We have some majorly conflicting reports on our hands.

Just moments ago we touched on a report from Philadelphia Flyers insider Dave Isaac who claimed to have knowledge of a major coaching shift happening in Philadelphia. In his report Isaac lays out some very specific claims, including the fact that current Philadelphia Flyers head coach Dace Hakstol will be fired within the next 48 hours and that additionally it will be former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville who replaces him.

From Issac's report:

Multiple sources tell the Courier Post that the Flyers will announce the firing of Hakstol Sunday night or Monday morning.

Sources also indicated that Joel Quenneville, a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, has been offered the position and accepted it. It’s unknown if he will make his debut Tuesday night when the Flyers play against the Detroit Red Wings at home or after the holiday break. If he waits, look for Lehigh Valley Phantoms coach Scott Gordon to be an interim head coach until Quenneville joins the club.

Now that is without a doubt a blockbuster coaching announcement and what a major win it would be for the Philadelphia Flyers to hire the man many consider to be the National Hockey Leagues's very best bench boss. That is of course it if actually comes to fruition. 

Although I will say that Isaac is not in the habit of reporting false or incorrect information there is now a second reporter, also one with a sterling reputation, who is claiming that the report from Isaac is not accurate. According to Fox Sports' Andy Strickland Quenneville has not taken the job in Philadelphia and he has a pretty good source on this if he is to be believed. Strickland claims that he has been informed by Joel Quenneville himself that the current reports suggesting he has taken the job in Philadelphia are not true. 

This is of course a major development and given that both these reporters tend to be on their game it's very difficult to gauge who may be right and who may have bad information. I will say this though, Quenneville has long been an advocate of better conditions for coaches in the National Hockey League and it would not shock me in the least to learn that he refused to acknowledge he had taken a position purely because the previous coach, in this case Dave Hakstol, had yet to be officially fired by the team. That is purely speculation on my part so take it for what it's worth.
