Breaking: Rangers prospect and top AHL scorer signs in KHL
Keystone Press

Jokerit Helsinki of the KHL have announced that they’ve signed former New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks prospect Nicklas Jensen to a one-year contract.

Jensen was drafted 29th overall by the Canucks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft but struggled to make an impact with the club and its minor league affiliate in Utica over his three seasons with the club. He was eventually traded, along with a 6th round pick, to the New York Rangers for forward Emerson Etem.

In New York Jensen failed to catch on with the parent club but experienced success at the AHL level with the team’s affiliate in Hartford. He was the team’s leading goal scorer and point producer in 2016-17 scoring 32 goals and 55 points. In fact, his 32 goals were second in the entire league for the season, just one behind top scorer Wade Megan.

With his new deal in Helsinki it seems as though the once promising 24-year old has given up on his NHL dream. However, because the deal is short-term (one year with an additional option year), don’t count out a return in the future.
