Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman has had a busy afternoon.

Minutes ago, the Red Wings completed a trade with the division rival Florida Panthers that saw veteran defenseman Michael Del Zott arrive in town in exchange for gritty forward Givani Smith, who has spent most of this season with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

However, Del Zotto will not be staying in Detroit. As soon as the first trade was completed, Yzerman flipped Del Zotto to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for center Danny O'Regan

Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (46th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Smith has appeared in a total of 85 NHL games, and has scored seven goals with seven assists. Meanwhile in 148 AHL games with the Griffins, he's tallied a total of 52 points.

O'Regan was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth-round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, and has a total of six points (one goal, five assists) in 35 career NHL games.
