When Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard was injured against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday evening, it was clear that his injury was a big one. Lightning forward Erik Condra as well as defenseman and recent AHL call-up Nick Jensen had both fallen on Howard awkwardly, as the latter required help getting up and off the ice.

It appeared as though his right knee was badly injured, and minutes ago it has been confirmed that (arguably) the team's brightest spot will miss 4-6 weeks of action due to a mild MCL sprain.

Despite a 5-7-1 record which many fans argue would be significantly better had Howard received help from his teammates, the 32-year-old posted a 1.96 goals-against average while maintaining a .934 save percentage.

With much speculation surrounding the number one goaltender's status ahead of the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, his trade market value could be decreasing as this is the second time this season he is placed on the injured reserve.

To date, no surgery is required, and updates will ensue in due time.
