BREAKING: Red Wings Recall Player from Grand Rapids
Keystone Press

Unsurprisingly, and in light of the Detroit Red Wings announcing earlier that veteran forward Darren Helm will be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks, the organization has proceeded to recall Tyler Bertuzzi from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

It was only a few short days ago that Bertuzzi was sent back down to the American Hockey League after going pointless in a three-game stint with the big club. Many fans had correctly predicted that the gritty grinder with a nose for the net would return sooner rather than later.

A two-point night, including a power play goal against the Texas Stars helped him punch his ticket back to the NHL.

When he was initially called up, head coach Jeff Blashill made it clear that Bertuzzi's mandate was to provide offense by getting to the "dirty areas" on the ice. While the 21-year-old did not make it onto the score sheet, he showed signs of promise thanks to his speed.

We'll be sure to update you more tomorrow.
