We have some major trade rumblings in the National Hockey League at the moment and they are coming from an extremely reliable source.

According to a breaking news report from Colorado Avalanche insider Adrian Dater of BSN Denver, the New York Rangers have once again sent multiple scouts to watch the Avalanche, this time during the Saturday afternoon game between the Avalanche and the Kings. Although you can never truly know which of the two teams professional scouts may be scouting, the fact that the Rangers have been scouting the Avalanche repeatedly as of late strongly suggests that they are the team that they are scouting once again today.

According to Dater's report the Rangers' scouting staff have "been following team everywhere lately," and furthermore Dater believes that this is due to the likelihood of a trade occurring between the two organizations.

"I definitely think a deal of some magnitude could happen by deadline," wrote Dater on Saturday.

What is obviously of great interest here is that Dater feels this will be a trade of some significance, and when you consider that the Rangers director of pro scouting is personally on hand for this scouting mission it's not hard to see why he believes something big is coming here. Additionally with the Rangers having followed the Avalanche so closely and so frequently as of late you have to imagine that the discussions between the two sides here have gone pretty deep already, although that is purely speculation based on conjecture at this time.

Dater was pressed on his comments by fans asking if the Rangers Kevin Hayes, a player that has been the constant subject of trade rumors in recent weeks, was the Colorado Avalanche's target in this potential move. Dater did not officially or unofficially confirm or deny that Hayes was the likely target of this potential trade deal in the making, but he would go on to admit that he believes Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie would be the most likely player going back the other way in such a deal. This would of course be a huge player for player trade involving two studs known for their offensive production, albeit from different sports on the ice.
