While the announcement is expected to be official by tomorrow, it looks like the Buffalo Sabres have finally found their new head coach.

Ralph Krueger will be named the next head coach of the Sabres, as reported by both Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and TSN’s Bob McKenzie. Friedman revealed the breaking news on the air of Sportsnet during the second intermission of Game 3 between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

The Sabres fired Phil Housley at the end of the regular season more than a month ago and have been looking for replacement ever since.

It is a return to the NHL for the 59-year-old Kruger, who most recently spent five years as the chairman of Southampton in the English Premier League. Kruger was fired from the position back in April and was rumoured to be a top candidate for the job in Buffalo.

Krueger also coached the Edmonton Oilers for a season and was the head coach of Team Europe at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The Sabres were in on Todd McLellan before he decided to accept the coaching job with the Kings in Los Angeles.

The Oilers and Ottawa Senators are still looking for a man to take over behind the bench before the start of the 2019-20 season.
