Plenty of waiver wire action in the NHL today.

First up, Martin Pospisil of the Calgary Flames, Scott Harrington of the San Jose Sharks and PC Labrie of the Tampa Bay Lightning have all cleared waivers. The players were all placed on waivers yesterday, but went through waivers unpassed and will now report to the AHL.

From TSN NHL insider Chris Johnston:

Additionally Linus Sandin (Philadelphia Flyers) and Dominic Toninato (Winnipeg Jets) have been placed on waivers today. In Sandin's case his contract will be terminated and he'll be free to seek employment overseas in his native Sweden.

Again from Johnston:

Sandin, not to be confused with Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Rasmus Sandin, is a 26 year old Swedish forward who has played just 1 career NHL game with the Flyers. Again, with his contract being terminated he likely won't gain the interest of other NHL teams. As for Toninato, he's a 28 year old forward with some pro level experience. He's played 164 NHL games split between the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets. He managed a career high seven goals and 14 points in 77 games with the Jets last season. If he clears waivers it's expected that he'll report to the team's AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose. Again, I don't expect that he'll generate much interest but unlike Sandin, he'll at least be eligible to play if he indeed does get picked up off the waiver wire.

After this weekend, once each of the NHL's 32 teams have had a chance to play their first game of the season, I expect that we'll see a significantly slower week ahead on the waiver wire. Roster spots have more or less been decided for each team and from here on out it will likely be just injuries that necessitate some movement on the waiver wire. Having said that, you never know... there are quite a few rookies getting some looks early on in the season. Once coaches make a determination on their futures, we could see some more movement. Stay tuned.
