Strange PTO from the Senators.

The Ottawa Senators have announced that they have signed a player to a professional tryout offer, and while these type of deals are often used on National Hockey League veterans, the Sens have signed a career American Hockey League player to one this time around.

According to a report from the Senators official website, the team has signed former Carolina Hurricanes fifth round draft pick Brendan Woods to a PTO, Woods however has almost no NHL experience.

Since being drafted in 2012 Woods has appeared in just seven total NHL games, instead spending the overwhelming majority of his time playing for the Charlotte Checkers.

It's possible that the Senators are bringing him in to training camp with the express intent of scouting him for their AHL club, however that seems like somewhat of an odd move from the team.

Woods will be joining them when training camp begins on Thursday.
