The Montreal Canadiens are attempting to pull off a trade.

According to a breaking news report from Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels of Sportsnet, Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin is currently actively shopping one of his veteran players.

From Engels:

Sportsnet has learned that the Canadiens are actively shopping the 39-year-old defenceman, whom they signed to a one-year, $700,000-contract in July with $300,000 in potential performance bonuses.

The Canadiens have bumped Streit all the way down their depth chart, and with young players like Victor Mete emerging as viable options for Montreal on defense, it seems Bergevin can get more out of Streit by moving his very team-friendly contract.

No word yet from Engels on where Streit may land, or what kind of return Bergevin is expecting to get back.
