Wow. That was certainly unexpected.

Is Johnny Gaudreau happy in Calgary?

The Flames star forward has made a pretty shocking comment this morning, in an interview with 94WIP, a radio station in Philadelphia. The 23-year-old winger, who still has five years left on his six-year, $40,5 million deal he signed at the beginning of last season, said he would like to play for the Philadelphia Flyers someday.

Here is what he said, as reported by Sportsnet:

“It would be sweet to play [in Philadelphia] some day. You never know in sports, but it’s a lot of support back here in South Jersey and the Philly area. I’ve got a ton of family here, all my friends. All my friends come back here, all my good friends, and kids that I’ve played with my whole life are from South Jersey.”

It is needless to say the rumor mill just went crazy after such a declaration, especially considering the fact that Gaudreau's deal includes a five-team trade list for the final season, where he gets to pick here he can be dealt. And guess what: the Flyers are on that list.

The young star, a former fourth-round pick in the 2011 NHL draft, has recorded 18 goals and 43 assists for 61 points in 72 games last season. He also added two points in four playoffs games.
