The struggling Montreal Canadiens have made a move on the waiver wire today, claiming forward Rem Pitlick from the Minnesota Wild.

It remains to be seen how Pitlick factor into things for the Habs, but it's clear that they're a team who can use all the help they can get. After advancing to the Stanley Cup Final last season, the Habs have absolutely fallen on their face this season and find themselves at the very bottom of the NHL's Atlantic Division. They sport a dreadful 7-23-4 record and it's clear that they're feeling the loss of quality veterans like Carey Price, Shea Weber and Philip Danault this season.

Longtime Habs GM Marc Bergevin was relieved from his position back in November and replaced with former New York Rangers GM Jeff Gorton, who serves as the team's new President of Hockey Operations. It's clear though that Gorton isn't rushing into making any personnel decisions with his new team. In fact, Pitlick is just Gorton's second acquisition with the Habs after grabbing defenseman Kyle Clague off of waivers from the Los Angeles Kings back in early December. For what it's worth, Clague hasn't made much impact despite his draft pedigree. Then again... what can you expect from a waiver wire pick up?

In any case, it's clear that there's a lot of work to be done before the Habs get themselves back into contending status.
