Breaking: Surprise gameday goaltending move for Wild

All the best to Alex Stalock and his young family!

According to a report from The Athletic’s Michael Russo, Devan Dubnyk will get the start in goal for the Minnesota Wild tonight as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs

Backup Alex Stalock was expected to get the start against his “former” team tonight, but because his wife is due to give birth to the family’s second child, the team has called up Niklas Svedberg from the AHL to back up Dubnyk.

The game in Toronto was expected to be a return for sorts for Stalock who spent a month with the franchise while living in a hotel room and not seeing any action with the team. He requested a trade and was eventually shipped to the Wild where the 30-year-old has resurrected his career.

While we’re confident he’d love nothing more than to stick it to the Leafs tonight, the consolation of welcoming a new child into the world should suffice. Congrats, Alex!
