Earlier today it was revealed that Los Angeles Kings star center Jeff Carter had suffered a lower-body injury during his preparations for the World Cup of Hockey and while it was initially believed that we would need to wait until tomorrow to learn his fate, a decision was made almost immediately.

Whether it was the Los Angeles Kings, Team Canada or Carter himself that pulled him out of the tournament, one thing is certain he has now officially been ruled out and team Canada has named his replacement.

Taking over for the injured Carter will be Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry, a player with a wealth of experience on the international stage representing his home country, experience that includes an Olympic Gold Medal on home soil.

While obviously Team Canada would have preferred Carter seeing as that is how they selected their roster, Corey Perry is an extremely solid replacement by any standard.
