Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported recently that teams have been calling Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney about long-time Bruin Zdeno Chara.

The 40-year-old is definitely way past his prime, but has proven to be an effective top 4 defenseman, even to this day. He posted an impressive 3 points Saturday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

His 2 assists put him on a prestigious list in Bruins history.

Now as far as these trade calls go - the Slovakian all-star is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Sweeney expressed a desire to re-sign him, and Chara wants to stay. That being said, one only needs to look at Andrei Markov's departure from the Montreal Canadiens after the player and Marc Bergevin expressed the same exact mutual desire.

If Boston finds themselves out of contention in February, it's very possible that their plans change.

Stay tuned.
