It's very early, but it appears we have a shocking development in Washington.
First NHL.com's Tom Gulitti reported that Ovechkin was wearing a red jersey at practice today, and was paired up with Tom Wilson and Lars Eller for the line rushes. That of course quickly led to some very interesting speculation but now it appears we have confirmation.
Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press is now reporting that Ovechkin on the third line is in fact happening for the Washington Capitals in an elimination game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It's an incredibly bold move from head coach Barry Trotz and although it's incredibly surprising, some may still feel a move of this kind was overdue given Ovechkin's postseason performance both past and present.
All eyes will be on Ovechkin tonight.
