Breaking: Tkachuk comments on his suspension to the media

There's definitely some regret in his words.

Matthew Tkachuk spoke to the media this evening following the news of his one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Tkachuk and Brad Treliving both characterized the incident as a "stupid play" according to Wes Gilbertson, reporter for Postmedia.

Rewatch the incident here - he spears Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Matt Martin from the bench.

Tkachuk is suspended for the second time in recent weeks, and has hopefully learned his lesson - he will continue to play an agitating style of hockey, but he needs to play within the confines of the rules as established by the NHL Player Safety Department and the CBA.

The 6th overall pick in 2016 has 17 points in 27 games - the Calgary Flames would much rather have him in the lineup rather than out, with the production and energy he brings night in and night out.
