He’s putting his NHL head coaching dreams on hold…
University of Denver head coach Jim Montgomery has been linked to NHL head coaching jobs in Los Angeles and Florida this offseason and was named as one of the top candidates for the Panthers, in particular. However, with planning now underway for the 2017-18 NCAA season, Montgomery has decided to stay in Denver and attempt to lead his Pioneers to another NCAA championship.
After concluding a second interview with the Panthers last week, Montgomery made the decision to remain with the Pioneers saying only, “My family and I are very happy here.”
The 47 year-old coach is a former NHL of 122 games and has compiled an impressive 102-47-18 record as a head coach at DU. He has led the team to an NCAA championship, an NCAA quarterfinal appearance and a Frozen Four semifinal appearance.
