Breaking: Two Bruins expected to miss the Stanley Cup Final.

This certainly has to be taken as very bad news on the part of the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins completely dominated the Carolina Hurricanes in what will likely go down as one of the most underwhelming Eastern Conference Final match ups in recent memory and as a result they are now looking at a very long layoff before they will next hit the ice. Due to their 4 game sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes the Bruins are now looking at an 11 day rest before they face the winner of the Western Conference Final currently being disputed between the San Jose Sharks and the St. Louis Blues. You would think that this much extra rest would give the Bruins plenty of time to nurse any injuries they may or may not have been dealing with during these playoffs but that will not be the case for every member of their roster.

On Saturday Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney spoke to the media about his organization's current Stanley Cup run and unfortunately he had some rather negative news to share with reporters, and by extension the Boston Bruins fan base. Sweeney openly admitted that, in spite of there being a large gap of time between now and the time the Stanley Cup Final will be contested, 2 of his Boston Bruins players were unlikely to be ready to go in the Final.

According to a breaking news report from Joe McDonald of The Athletic, Sweeney informed the press that veteran defenseman Kevan Miller has suffered a significant setback in his recovery from injury and will not be ready for the final as a result. The 31 year old Miller has been a regular figure on the Bruins blue line this season but it now appears that the team will have to continue to rely heavily on young defenseman Connor Clifton. Thankfully Clifton has proven very capable for the Bruins but the loss of Miller will cost them some depth issues at the very least.

Additionally it appears that the injury to veteran winger Chris Wagner is more serious that it initially appeared to be. Again according to comments made by Sweeney on Sunday it appears that Wagner is also expected to miss the Final as a result of his injury. Sweeney reportedly informed reporters that he would be surprised if Wagner was able to go, even with all that extra rest the Bruins have earned.

For those looking for a silver lining here Sweeney also would add that Chara is fine and will be ready for the Final, although I doubt that comes as much of a surprise to anyone.
