The Toronto Maple Leafs had an interesting visitor earlier today during practice. Free agent goaltender Karri Ramo, formerly of the Calgary Flames, dressed up in the blue and white today and took a few shots.
While there was speculation that perhaps Ramo would be brought in on a professional tryout, head coach Mike Babcock clarified the situation with reporters earlier.
It turns out that Ramo’s agent has a good relationship with general manager Lou Lamoriello, and called in a favor in order to help his client rehabilitate his knee after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL. The Maple Leafs’ organization was gracious enough to help Ramo practice, and it turns out that the goalie was doing the Leafs a favor by not forcing Frederik Andersen to face too many shots.
Till now, it appears that Ramo’s situation is unclear, as even Babcock could not confirm whether he will continue practicing with the team or not.
