This is a big contract for a player who is already 32 years old.
According to an official report from the St. Louis Blues organization, the team has agreed to a new contract extensions with veteran forward Alex Steen, a player who has spent the better part of the last decade within their organization.
Despite his age however Steen has demonstrated that he can continue to produce at a top six level, putting up 48 points last season, a solid total considering he was only able to participate in 67 games during the course of the regular season.

The Blues have reported that the contract is a four-year deal worth $23 million which means the deal breaks down to an average annual value and cap hit of $5.75 million, again a lot of money for an aging player.
Obviously the Blues have a great deal of faith in Steen, and at this point he has given them no reason to believe otherwise.
