You hate to see this happen to any player, regardless of the franchise they represent, and especially so when it comes in the latter stages of a player's career.

According to a report from Eric Stephens of the Orange Country Register, veteran forward Nate Thompson has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, a devastating injury, and as a result will miss a significant portion of the 2016-2017 season.

Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray has since confirmed that report and his comments on the situation are a sign of just how bad this injury truly is for Thompson and by extension the Ducks.

"We'll be lucky to see him before the trade deadline, but he healed quickly from his shoulder injury," said Murray through social media.

That's the 2017 trade deadline that he's referring to by the way, a huge loss for the Ducks. We wish Nate all the best in what is hopefully a speedy recovery.
