Breaking: Vlasic injured after taking huge hit from Johansen

San Jose Sharks top defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic took a dangerous hit to the head from Nashville Predators forward Ryan Johansen Wednesday night, and it may keep him out of action for an undetermined amount of time.

According to head coach Pete DeBoer, the injury isn't believed to be a long-term one, but given the point of contact was the head, they have to be careful.

Here's the play in question.

Vlasic had to leave the game and did not return. Teammate Joe Pavelski stood up for the fallen defenseman and subsequently fought Johansen eight minutes later following a big hit on his rival.

Johansen later told the Mercury News that “I hope he’s OK, first of all. I totally thought it was clean. I would never, ever try and hit someone in a bad position. I felt like I was just getting body position on him, but I really hope he’s OK because you never want to see anybody go down.”

Johansen received no supplemental discipline from the NHL.

Vlasic, 30, has 4 points in 12 games this season.
