David Ayres Part 2!?!?!?!

This just in, the Colorado Avalanche have announced that starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper is not well enough to dress for this evening's game and that emergency backup goalie (EBUG) Jett Alexander of the University of Toronto will dress as the team's backup. Jonas Johansson will start the game and the Avs are hopeful that AHL goaltender Justus Annunen will arrive in time to take over for Alexander.

Check it out:

Now... technically we're still a little bit removed from having a true "David Ayres" situation, but the stage is set. Should Johansson go down with injury before Annunen arrives to the rink... well... buckle up, Leafs fans. At least this time around you might get beat by an actual University level goaltender and not a local Zamboni driver...

The 22 year old Alexander is a former Junior A star with the OJHL's North York Rangers and actually set the league record for shutouts in 2018-19 with 10 clean sheets in 43 games. He concluded his junior career with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL in 2019-20 and has played just one game with the OUAA's University of Toronto this season. It's a long way from the NHL, but at least the kid is somewhat battle tested.
