A National Hockey League captain has agreed to a short-term deal, but one that carries a very respectable chunk of money.
According to a breaking news from the Minnesota Wild, the team has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with captain Mikko Koivu, a deal that will pay him a total of $11 million, an average annual value of $5.5 million per season.
Koivu and the Wild were rumored to be in negotiations over the week-end, and it's rather obvious given how quickly this deal came together that both sides wanted to extend their relationship together.
Despite being 34-years-old Koivu is coming off one of his best statistical seasons with the Wild. In the 2016-2017 campaign he recorded 18 goals and 40 assists for a total of 58 points over 80 regular season games.
It seems likely that all sides will be pleased with this outcome.
