The Detroit Red Wings announced today the signing of forward David Booth, who participated in the team's training camp on a professional try out.

Per The Athletic's Craig Custance, the contract is a two-way one-year deal, paying $700,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the AHL level.

The longtime NHL veteran has had an injury-riddled career, struggling to solidify a spot on an NHL team since 2014-15. In the interim, Booth played overseas in the KHL.

Booth appeared to be in contention with PA-Parenteau, who was also on a PTO in Detroit's camp. Parenteau was released from his try out.

Does Booth's signing have any implications on the Andreas Athanasiou negotiations? The answer is yes, and no. He provides a serviceable insurance option should the restricted free agent not come to terms on a deal with the Red Wings. His being here does not spell the end for the skilled centerman, however.

Do you like this signing for Detroit, or should they have taken Parenteau instead?
